GOLD - because you had a funny final day

So Gold finally ended with Chiltern Chillies poised to take their trophy - but somehow they lost their first match in the ENTIRE competition with a 30-47 reverse at THE QUADS MUST  BE CRAZY, who themselves take their first AQL Gold title.

Both teams thankfully were going up to Champ anyway, and are joined by the winner of 3rd 4th. CARPAL DIEM thus become one of two sides to have played in four leagues finally, as they won the million dollar playoff against We have ghats to pass. The latter will go up of course if dropouts happen as they occupy the all important fourth place seat.

On the other end of Gold - the hitherto meaningless 13th 14th place playoff carried huge stakes this season as we decreased the relegation slots on the final day from 4 to 3. The two teams contesting this match had both come up from Plat and did not want to go back down as one of them has gone back down three times at last count. Unfortunately that team now goes back down for what seems like the 4th time, as BPHP lost to ON THE ROCKS, who just about keep their hard earned place in Gold after two successive promotions from the depths of Ruby.

Joining them going down is A Quarterful of Secrets and IISERGard - both teams did not transition well into an environment containing some of the top teams of some Asian nations and both teams will be happy to chill in Plat for a bit.

Six in the City do their traditional last gasp escape and lose in the dead 11th 12th rubber playoff to MASOQUIZSTS, who will be hoping that next season is kinder to them. Omega Six secured 9th place in Gold by beating Insane Clowns Possessed - both are the traditional Gold midtable sides and will be keen to remain there rather than sink any further.

EIC and Vetes Vulpes contested the usually insipid 7th 8th playoff and VV won by a sliver - both these giants are waiting to roar again and both have in recent seasons tasted the waters of Champ again (with a view to go Prem) but will be stuck in Mid-Level Gold for a bit longer. And last but not least we have the "did we almost get promoted" sides playoff, the 5th 6th (featuring the 3rd placed team on both sides). This was contested by two of our almost-Champ sides, Church of St Kitts and Lethe It Be, and the Americans snatched a very small victory from the jaws of first packet defeat.

So here we go another of those interminable Gold seasons ends

CHAMPIONS: The Quads Must Be Crazy
