Summary of all promotion and relegation activities PREM/CHAMP
PREM is the one league that has not ended yet - and now we are going into the El Clasico finals, where a team that has won AQL before will win it again. 120 Days of Sodor are heavily tipped to win it as they come into the finals with large sized defeats of various theoretically very strong teams. Matunga edged last season's champions (now this year's semifinalists) Ship of QDeus by a tight one point in a 40-plus match for all, however, so they have played against some of the best and survived.
My money? Matunga has a habit of thriving in high stress high yield situations, whereas 120 Days have the sheer star power to do it. But Matunga is a better oiled machine so if held at gunpoint I would vote them to lift the silverware again.
On the other end, FCA won three out of three relegation playoff matches and ensured that The Sign of Four, Doctors Proctors, and SxSE will move to the Championship League next Season. No shame as this has been the hardest Prem in a long time - Vonman Army will be celebrating their survival as the only promoted side to keep their membership. Will the three relegated sides from Season 7 replace them in Prem?
Looks like not, as in CHAMP - it is almost over and CROUCHING MIMIR (certainly not an ex-Prem) have won the title with one match to spare. With that, they become our first team to ever travel to four different leagues. Remembering the times when they were picking off Platinum sides - they've probably played against half the teams in Ruby now - and now Season 9 sees them debut, albeit with a slightly stronger side but still the core of who they started with in Plat is still intact. 8 matches into a 9 match slog, they have won the title, the first Platinum side to ever win the Championship title.
The rest of the gang are still in it - Blind Dates, You Lot, Ageing Bulls, The Mango a Go Go, all in the race for the 2nd and 3rd promotion spot. Tequila Mockingbird, and Naan Aligned Movement cannot make it anymore mathematically so they will just bask in the relief of just having survived the season un-relegatable.
Looking at how things go - Blind Dates should easily clear the bar as they have to play Urban Fervor last after having racked up 5 wins against a stellar lineup of sides, all of which would not look out of place in Prem. You Lot have it slightly hard as they deal with NAAM in their last season, who also want to have some pride on the last day. However both sides do have their own fate in their hands so just need to work the engine one last time and make it potentially two new teams going up to Prem.
Ageing Bulls need to hope either one of them lose and they also have to beat Tequila Mockingbird who themselves have nothing to play for either - too many variables at stake unfortunately and the Bulls will rue the very out of character loss to QDPi early in the season which led them to this place where their fate was out of their own hands.
Mango a Go Go...unfortunately... have not played Mimir yet so probably they have too many "insurmountables" for me to successfully predict promotion. However - Mimir might rest their side for the meaningless final match (though exactly what a quizzer might need to rest from is beyond me) and hence if Mango a Go Go win, they will just have to expect everyone above to lose too. Okay maybe three too tall orders, but MGG are just happy to be here in Champ and consolidate one more season, aren't you?
On the other end - It is goodbye and good luck to UF, QDPi and Andhre Agassi who have ran the race 8 times and not emerged from it victorious too many times. Historically Champ has always been a difficult league to break into, and it takes one or two descends and rebirths for a side to truly become one of the pantheon. Look at Crouching MIMIR for example. Without their up-down-ups they would have merely been ordinary Champ.
Later today - GOLD PLAT and RUBY.
