Ruby League - the finals are nigh
Hi all!
Can't keep me away from writing these posts for long - but thought a few matchdays was sufficient punishment for the 22 people who actually liked reading them. I have (and will be) migrating to this IYKYK platform now to write them, and because they are not public like FB is, they will be vitriolic and highly caustic, as I have nothing to lose from pissing off the Platinum Mastercard holders of AQL. So be it - you were not invited to read this blog so don't get offended or go all woke on me if you stumble upon criticism you were not supposed to read in the first place!
I have had to restart writing as there genuinely were teams that did not know what was happening to them (yes the data driven approach genuinely does not work for everyone and prose is a wonderful method of communication indeed). RUBY has ended quite oddly, exactly how it did last year - all teams from ONE side (Klang if I am not mistaken) won in the recently concluded quarterfinals, leaving Option One (winners of the other side), and Four's a Quad (easily the best relegated team to be stuck another season in Ruby) trapped in Ruby for another season despite being the seeded teams in the knockouts.
So our semifinals transpired in two somewhat awkward matchups of teams with history between each other. Trivia Matters had to visit Movin's Minute Men for the first proper time this season (the first fixture being a walkover, with 3M having a completely different lineup that time) and promptly found out why teams have feared playing them, succumbing to what has really only been the second crucial, crucial defeat of the season. TM hence go into the 3rd/4th playoff needing desperately to win to go back up again after two lonely seasons in Ruby side.
In the other semifinal, Carlo Rossi (one of our most highly touted sides for Ruby S8) were just not able to let history strike twice, and this time lost to Quiz and Qurious in another upsetting of the formbook.
With that QUIZ AND QURIOUS and MOVIN'S MINUTE MEN both secure promotion to Platinum, despite both teams being fourth and third place in the original league respectively. Whereby their compatriots in first and second place (Trivia Matters and Carlo Rossi) now have to duke it out for a limited spot to go up to Platinum. This will be an interesting weekend and Carlo Rossi have already scheduled a date to take Trivia Matters out on a spin on the road. Who will make it this time?
And also - will MMM be the first team constituted halfway through the season to win the trophy, or will QUIZ AND QURIOUS finally lift some silverware after plying Ruby for one season too long by now?
